The primary purpose of an ac electric power system is to move electric power from the sources of the electric power, the generators, to the consumers of the electric power, the loads, through the wires joining the two, the transmission and distribution system. Power systems come in a variety of sizes, ranging in size from those with a single small generator and perhaps a handful of loads to the gigantic.
